Celadon at 9th & Broadway – San Diego

Architecture

Winner of the 2016 ULI Global Award for Excellence.

Situation

BCI served as the PR firm for Celadon at 9th and Broadway, one of San Diego’s most lauded urban developments. The project was developed by BRIDGE Housing and constructed by Turner Construction Company, with BCI’s Client, SVA Architects, as the Architect of Record, and Studio E Architects as Design Architect. A truly trailblazing project, Celadon at 9th and Broadway offers multigenerational, affordable housing for those who need it most in a sustainable, mixed-use, urban high-rise. It offers affordable apartments to residents earning 30-60% of the AMI, in addition to youth aging out of foster care, adults under the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA), and seniors under the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). The project is three blocks from a major trolley stop and has on-site wellness services. It also hosts a 143-foot-tall solar photovoltaic system, the tallest of its kind in the US. With so many unique elements, SVA Architects sought to leverage the project’s potential as a national model for urban affordable housing.

Strategy

BCI brought all partners together for its communications and media relations efforts, securing partner quotes for joint press releases, and leveraging Celadon’s highly innovative elements to propel the project into the global spotlight. Celadon at 9th and Broadway received a ULI Global Award for Excellence, the inaugural ULI Healthy Places Award, a 2016 Gold Nugget Grand Award, a 2016 Multifamily Executive Grand Award, a 2016 Ruby Award, BUILDER Magazine’s 2014 Builder’s Choice Grand Award, and others. BCI crafted several award applications and leveraged those accolades to garner international media attention and continue to elevate the reputation of its client, SVA Architects.

Results

The project continues to set a high standard for affordable housing nationwide, and on a global scale. BCI’s international press releases have reached a potential audience of almost 80 million people throughout the United States, as well as Australia, India, The UK, Indonesia, Greece, The Netherlands, and others.
